I was the Team Lead for my senior design project at UCF. We were working towards making a custom engineered chemical dispensing system for Agri-Starts. Agri-Starts is a successful plant propagation company based in Apopka, Florida. Including myself, our team is comprised of six mechanical and one electrical engineer. We delivered a finished prototype in April 2019. You can see our work below.
Each chemical container is connected to a peristaltic pump. These pumps are connected in an inline arrangement via barb fittings. The larger pump on the right side of the machine is a diaphragm water pump. This pump not only dispenses the water required for mixtures but also pushes the chemical being dispensed from each pump to the desired destination. Each of the peristaltic pumps is accurate to the mililiter which allows for successful results from the machine.
I own a CNC machine that I use to create signs and crafts. What started with "does it run?, will it explode?" has now turned into a hobby that I enjoy. I have created crafts for friends and family as well as for UCF.
