At the end of 2019 I created a company named Over Yonder with a friend. The goal was to use both of our different talents and interests to create great products. We both have a shared passion for woodworking and have made many different products that we sell online.
We are continuing to grow and develop new products that will add value to people's homes. We hope to grow this company as best we can and reach a point where we can hire employees and operate out of storefront.
During my entrepreneurship journey I was able to learn many useful skills. Web design as demonstrated on this website was a big key in helping the company launch. While the website worked teh way it was intended, we decided to only operate out of an Etsy store page due to marketing efficiency. Marketing is another skill that had to be learned for this business. I was able to learn how to take good product photos and videos to generate sales online. Additionally, I refined my CNC operation skills and mechanical engineering skills during product development. Figuring out the best ways to build a product on a budget is challenging and was satisfying to overcome. Some of our products had to be shipped dissasembled which required engineering in the product as well as the creation of a instruction manual for customers to reassemble. You can see some of the design process below.
There were a few custom projects that got requested by our customers. One of those projects included the use of a arduino to control a piston lifted table. That table which is pictured above, required design of the mechanism to satisfy the space requirements. The scissor mechanism had to be custom made in our shop and follow a strict budget. It also had to be electrically powered and be safe to operate. All of these requirements were satisfied by the time the project needed to be completed.
